EVERYTHING THE PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAMME NEEDS TO KNOW

 PNP: What is it?

Established in 1998, the Provincial Nominee Programme (PNP) is the second most popular pathway for skilled worker immigration to Canada, behind Express Entry. Nearly all provinces and territories administer the PNP in an effort to grow their local economies and draw in skilled workers from across the globe.

This programme is for workers who choose to live in a particular province or territory and become permanent residents of Canada and who have the training, education, and work experience necessary to support that province's economy.

Every province and territory has unique standards as well as unique "streams," or immigration programmes tailored to particular demographics. For instance, provinces and territories may aim to target

ü  learners

ü  businesspeople

ü  competent personnel

ü  Semi-competent labourers

HOW DO I APPLY?

The Provincial Nominee Programme stream you're applying to will determine how you submit your application. It may be necessary for you to apply online through Express Entry or through the paper application process.
You will need to obtain a police check (certificate) and pass a medical examination as part of the process. No matter where they want to live in Canada, everyone has to undergo these checks.

1.    Process based on paper

In the procedure that uses paper:

·         You submit an application for nomination through a non-Express Entry route to the province or territory.

·         · To be considered for a nomination, you have to meet the requirements set forth by the province.

·         After being nominated, you apply in person to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for permanent residency.

·         You must obtain a police check (certificate) and pass a medical examination. No matter where they want to live in Canada, everyone has to undergo these checks.

·         The duration of application processing is greater than that of Express Entry.

2.    Express Entry procedure

Applying using the Express Entry online method may be done in two ways:

You get in touch with the province or territory and submit an Express Entry stream nomination application.

You create an Express Entry profile, or update an existing one, and indicate that you have been nominated if the province or territory accepts your nomination.

OR

You indicate the provinces and regions you are interested in while creating an Express Entry profile.

You get in touch with the province or territory directly if they send a "notification of interest" to your account.

The nomination certificate will be sent to your account by the province or territory if you are selected, and you will be able to accept it electronically.
